<p>The 191st ARS is the group's flying unit and operates the KC-135E. It was formed as the 191st Fighter Squadron in November 1946 with P-51Ds and was called to active duty between April 1951 and December 1952. The 191st was redesignated a Fighter-Bomber Squadron early in 1952, until 1955 when the unit became the 191st FIS with the F-86A. The 151st FIG was formed in August 1957. The F-86L was assigned from 1958 until April 1961, when the unit became the 191st Air Transport Squadron with C-97Cs and later C-97Gs. The squadron was redesignated the 191st MAS in January 1966 and switched to the C-124C in February 1969. It converted to the KC-97L in October 1972 as the 191st ARS before upgrading to the KC-135A in April 1978. The Stratotankers were re-engined to KC-135E standard in 1982.
